Two Home Dates This Week For Girls Tennis Team

Posted on: August 28, 2017

SETTING THE SCENE:  The Milford girls tennis team will look for their first win this week, as they host Seton and the ECC’s Anderson on their home court.  With a challenging schedule among some of the best teams outside of the conference, the team is looking to improve their record after a 0-5 start.

A LOOK BACK:   Milford faced #9 Mount Notre Dame to begin the week, and fell to 5-0.  Gott d. Emme Thomas 6-1, 6-0; Leah Breuer lost to Bowling 6-0, 6-1; and Jackie Hooper fell to Weeks 6-0, 6-0.  The pair of Haubner-Schneider of Mount Notre Dame outlasted Milford’s Emma Neal-Grace Ruhlman 6-2, 6-1, and Sam Miller-Olivia Bailey lost to Dupps-Ford 6-2, 6-0.

In the first ECC match of the season, Milford traveled to Turpin, last year’s conference champion.  The Spartans, who are fielding another strong team and ranked #5 in last week’s coaches’ poll, came away with the 5-0 win.  Thomas fell 6-0, 6-0 to Fisher, who placed fourth at the 2016 State Championship.  Allen won 6-0, 6-0 over Breuer and Hooper lost 6-2, 6-1 to Turpin’s Webber.  Both doubles teams fell as well:  Grace Ruhlman-Olivia Ruhlman lost 6-1, 6-0 to Wilke-Musgrove, and Emma Neal-Olivia Bailey fell 6-0, 6-0.

The ladies gained a bit of momentum in their final match of the week, a 5-0 loss to the ECC’s Walnut Hills.  Thomas lost to Long, 6-0, 6-1 at first singles, while Breuer lost 6-1, 6-2 to Walnut’s Hall.  Milford’s Hooper fell to Reblando 6-1, 6-1.  Ruhlman-Ruhlman were defeated by Capannari-Jones 6-1, 6-1, while Neal-Miller fell to Lintz-Miller 6-1, 6-0.

A LOOK AHEAD:  Milford has a relatively light week ahead, as they look for their first win.  The week starts with a nonconference date with Seton, and will end hosting the ECC’s Anderson.

  • Monday, 8/28:             Seton High School @ Milford, 4:00 pm
  • Tuesday, 8/29:             Anderson High School @ Milford, 4:00 pm

INSIDE THE ECC:  Turpin, who defeated Milford last week, sits atop the early ECC standings at 2-0, followed by Anderson and Walnut Hills, both 1-0.  Loveland is an even 1-1, while West Clermont, Kings, and Milford seek their first conference victory.

POLL WATCH:  Milford received six votes in the latest area coaches’ poll, up from three votes last week.  There were no changes in the top five, as Mason, Ursuline Academy, Sycamore, St. Ursula and the ECC’s Turpin maintained their rankings from week one.  Loveland also held onto sixth place and Walnut Hills moved up to eighth from tenth.  Anderson (6) joined Milford in receiving votes as well in week two of the poll
