Eagles To Challenge Kings In Next Round Of OHSAA Baseball Tournament

A LOOK BACK: May 13 at Ross: Ross 3, Milford 2 (10 innings) Game 1



A marathon game that began on May 4 and concluded nine days later saw Ross push across the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning to outlast the Eagles by a 3-2 final. The game was halted in the top of the eighth inning originally with the score tied at two. Ross’ Ethan Hall’s RBI single in the 10th handed the Rams the win.


Jake Becker had the distinction of both starting and finishing the game, with Sam Roth tossing four scoreless frames in between. Becker was the hard luck loser after allowing just one unearned run and striking out seven in 5.1 combined innings.


Adam Yoh put the Eagles on the board with a squeeze bunt in the third, but Ross took the lead with two in its half of the inning. Milford got its other run in the top of the fourth when Calvin Hunter scored on a Ross error.

A seven-run third inning that included a trio of errors sunk Milford as they dropped the nightcap of the Ross doubleheader by a 7-2 final. The frame saw the Rams send 12 hitters to the plate against Eagle pitcher Cam Atwell. The three miscues in the field paved the way for five unearned runs for Ross.


Milford got its two runs in the sixth on a Calvin Hunter RBI double, followed by a Grant Whitaker run-scoring base hit.

May 15 at Milford: Milford 11, Withrow 0 (OHSAA Tournament)



Milford took care of its business early, scoring seven times in the third to put away conference foe Withrow by an 11-0 score in the first round of the OHSAA Tournament. Senior Calvin Hunter led the way, driving in three runs and combining with starter Braden Pickett for a one-hit shutout on the mound.


After a single run in the first (Grant Whitaker sac fly) and two more in the second (RBI by Max Ward and Hunter), the Eagles sent 12 to the plate in the seven-run third. The big hit of the frame came from Whitaker who lined a two-run single to plate Ward and pinch-runner Jake Becker. The Eagles’ scoring concluded with Hunter’s fourth inning run-scoring double.

COLLEGE BOUND EAGLES: Calvin Hunter was the first member of the 2019 Milford Baseball senior class to announce his plans for next season. Hunter has signed a national letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Marshall University beginning in the fall. Recently, classmate Adam Yoh committed to continue his career at Bluffton University.
