Eagles Topple Lebanon In Football Playoff Opener

Posted on: October 30, 2021

Milford scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to pull away from Lebanon and into the second round of the OHSAA Football Playoffs with a 21-7 win over its conference rivals. With the victory, the sixth-seeded Eagles advance to the second round where they will travel to No. 3 Lakota West next Friday.

Scoring was at a premium throughout as Lebanon scored its only touchdown midway through the second quarter. It took the Eagles until mid-third quarter to tie the game when Tofa Luani punched it in from four yards out.

The Eagles defense and special teams came up big all night, first on an interception by Tahj Price that set up Luani’s touchdown and then later on a blocked field goal by Jacob Smith. With just over six minutes left in the contest, Sawyer Copp dove in from a yard our to give Milford its first lead of the night at 14-7.

The next big defensive play came on Lebanon’s ensuing possession as senior Danny McCoy sacked Warrior QB Adam Sherick on fourth down in Milford territory. That cleared the way for the game-sealing touchdown, a Natwan Webster five-yard run with 1:50 showing on the clock.

The Eagles were victorious despite being outgained 254-170. Webster led the Eagle ground game with 65 yards, while QB Austin Hardin threw for 106 yards. Rob Mickler had 10 tackles in his first career start, while McCoy had eight stops, including his sack.
