Jill Helms To Be Recommended As Head Girls Soccer Coach

Posted on: February 14, 2019

The Milford High School Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that Jill Helms will be recommended for the position of head coach of the Eagles’ girls soccer program at the next Milford Exempted Village School District Board of Education meeting. Pending board approval, Helms will rejoin the Milford program after a one year hiatus. The recommendation of Coach Helms will be voted on at the next board meeting on February 21.

Helms spent last year focusing on her teaching obligations at Milford, but previously has served as the head JVA and JVB coach for the Eagles. She has also led the Loveland High School junior varsity program and was a varsity assistant at Bellingham High School in Washington State.

“Saying I am excited and grateful for this opportunity would be an understatement,” Helms noted. “While I’ve had opportunities to lead programs for other districts, I promised myself a long time ago that I would only serve as head coach at the school where I teach. After years of patiently waiting, I am so thankful that my time has come with this group of girls. They were worth the wait!”

Prior to coaching, Helms played college soccer for two universities: Ball State University, where she served as the freshman captain, and Trinity International University, where as captain, she lead her team to a national championship and was selected as the national tournament MVP.

“Coach Helms has many years of successful experience as a girls soccer player, coach and teacher with a proven record of developing student-athletes and investing in a quality program,” stated Milford Director of Athletics & Extracurricular Activities Mark Trout. “We are confident in her extensive background and look forward to what she plans to build for the future here in the MEVSD.”

In addition to the recommendation of Coach Helms, Larry Hutzel, who last season led the Milford JVA program to a 12-1-2 record, will be recommended as the varsity assistant coach.
