OHSAA Duals and Milford Invitational Ahead for Wrestlers

Posted on: January 23, 2018

SETTING THE SCENE:  Following last week’s meets with Goshen and the James V. Horning Memorial Tournament, Milford’s schedule will not ease up as they open the week on the mats at the OHSAA Regional Dual Team Tournament on Wed., Jan. 24 at Western Brown High School.  The Eagles will then host the annual Milford Invitational Tournament this weekend, where the action will get underway at 9:30 am.

A LOOK BACK:  Seniors Tre Spillman and Ashley Costa, Erica Mailloux, and Bailey Murphy of the Pinnettes were recognized prior to the home meet with Goshen on Thurs., Jan. 18 in the Milford High School main gym.  Unfortunately, Goshen left with a 68-18 win; check back for updates on individual results.

The Eagles headed to the James V. Horning Memorial Tournament in Mason on Saturday.

Milford participates each year and strongly supports the mission of the JV Horning Memorial Foundation, which was started in memory of James Victor Horning in 2007 to help keep the spirit of James alive by helping students and families in need.  James was a senior at Mason High School when in October of his senior year he was tragically killed in an automobile accident.  His death is not a story of drinking and driving, but a cautionary tale of an inexperienced driver on a very wet road during a thunderstorm who was NOT WEARING HIS SEAT BELT. The JVH Memorial Foundation was formed to help students in need and to keep the spirit of James alive in hopes that it will help others (especially families who are dealing with a similar loss).  All money raised through the foundation goes back into the community.

Teams in the one day tournament included Centerville, Woodford County (KY), Indianapolis Cathedral (IN), West Clermont, Legacy, Lakota West, Mason, Milford, Mechanicsburg, and Miami East.

The Eagles sent a limited roster to the tourney including Ray Clayton, Kobey Bronaugh, Tristan Messerschmidt, Mason Roy, Derek Elliot, and Justin Bell.  Milford ended the tournament with four Eagles in the top seven.

Kobey Bronaugh (#132) – 3rd place

Ray Clayton (#120) – 5th place

Justin Bell (#170) – 6th place

Derek Elliot (#160) – 8th place

SCHEDULE:  The Eagles start the week at the OHSAA Regional Dual Team Tournament.  Milford, seeded #6 will face #3 Little Miami in the opening round.  The winning team will then hit the mats approximately 20 minutes after the first dual finishes with #2 West Clermont, who has a bye in round one.

The Eagles will end the week hosting the Milford Invitational Tournament.  The Eagles captured first place at the MIT in 2017, and Kobey Bronaugh (#113) captured an individual championship. Tre Spillman (#160) placed second and Max Ward (#120) finished third.
