Evans, Vause Headed For State Track & Field Championships!

Posted on: May 26, 2023

Junior Caitlin Evans and sophomore Charlie Vause have both punched their tickets to next week’s OHSAA State Championships after successful performances at Friday night’s regional championships.

Evans broke her own school record in the long jump with a leap of 17’6 ½” to place fourth. Vause roared to a second place finish in the 1600 meters with a personal-best time of 4:17.25.

Vause also competed in the 3200 meters, posting another PR at 9:30.10, finishing sixth overall and just missing a double trip to state. Junior Kelsey McKenney took part in the discus competition and her heave of 107’6” earned her 11th place.
Vause becomes the first male state qualifier from Milford since Mike Bode took part in the 300 meter hurdles in 2002. Evans, meanwhile, is the first Eagle female to qualify in a field event since Clare Carthueser in the discus in 2015.

Both Evans and Vause are now bound for Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University next Saturday to compete for state titles. Evans’ long jump event will begin at 3pm, while Vause will take to the track in the 1600 meter finals at approximately 5:15pm.
