Girls Basketball Report: February 6

Posted on: February 6, 2021

February 6 at West Clermont
Milford was able to overcome a sluggish third quarter to hold off West Clermont and pick up a hard fought 39-31 road victory over the rival Wolves. After WC rallied to tie the score at 31 with five minutes to play, Milford ran off the final eight points of the game to grab the win and a season split with the Wolves.

It was also a big day for sharp-shooting junior Madalyn Hills, who set the Milford school record for three-pointers in a season, a mark previously held by current junior varsity coach Kelly Noll. She heads into the regular season finale and the subsequent OHSAA Tournament with 52 made triples this season, two better than Noll’s mark.

The Eagles took a nine-point lead into halftime, but made just 1 of 12 third quarter shots as the Wolves trimmed their deficit to 27-25. In the early part of the fourth, Milford opened a four-point cushion, but two Taylor Schmidt free throws and an Alexis Lovejoy lay-up tied the score at 31 with 5:04 to play. The Eagles would go in front to stay with three-pointers on consecutive possessions by Hills and Miah O’Toole, then played lockdown defense the rest of the way to secure the triumph.
