Milford Announces Promotions of Dumont, Leist To Head Coach Positions

Posted on: April 29, 2024

The Milford High School Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that beginning this fall, Joe Dumont (Boys Cross Country) and Leona Leist (Girls Golf) will take on new roles as varsity head coach of their respective programs. The promotions are pending approval by the Milford Exempted Village School District Board of Education.

Dumont has served as the varsity assistant coach of the boys cross country program for the past two seasons and previously led the junior high cross country program as head coach for three years. He has also led the junior high track & field program as the head coach for the last three seasons.

“I am excited for this opportunity to work with the program and look forward to continuing to build upon the tradition of success that has been established,” he says. “Coming off of back-to-back Regionals appearances, our goals are to make it to State as a team and place on the podium once there. It is an exciting time to be part of Milford Cross Country and I am honored to have the privilege to represent the Eagles Way!”

Leist enters her 19th year of coaching, having spent the past two seasons assisting her daughter Katie O’Bryan with the Milford program. In 2005, Leist started the junior high program at Kings. She was a teacher all over the Greater Cincinnati area for 25 years, before retiring in 2019. A graduate of Purdue and Xavier Universities, Coach Leist also has over a decade of experience as a youth golf coach in the area. She spent nearly 10 years leading the St. Margaret of York (Loveland) golf team, before coaching two seasons with the Middletown Middle School program.

“I am looking forward to this next journey as the Varsity Girls Golf Coach in Milford,” Leist says. “I am excited to step into this new role having coached at the junior high level and recently at the high school level. It is amazing to see the growth of the girls and their skills as the season progresses. My goal is to work with these girls and build a highly competitive team for Milford while helping the girls to enjoy this lifelong sport. Coaching golf isn’t about the win/loss record. It is about honestly, integrity, and perseverance. I am proud to help instill these life long skills with the young ladies I am fortunate to coach.”
