Six Milford High School Student-Athletes Announce College Plans
The Milford High School Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that six members of its Class of 2023 will continue their athletic careers on the collegiate level. The student-athletes that have committed to continuing their academic and athletic futures are Simon Bargo (Baseball-Campbell University), Summer Hale (Cheerleading-University of Cincinnati), Chase Herrell (Baseball-The Ohio State University), Luke Ray (Men’s Lacrosse-Towson University), Jacob Smith (Men’s Lacrosse-University of Albany) and Carly Stinson (Women’s Soccer-Cleveland State University).
Bargo had a stellar junior season on the mound for the Eagles on his way to first team All-Eastern Cincinnati Conference honors. For the season, he ranked second in the league among qualifying players with a 0.82 ERA in 25.2 innings of work. Bargo was also an honorable mention Cincinnati Enquirer All-Star.
At Campbell, an NCAA Division I program in Buies Creek, NC, Bargo will play for head coach Justin Haire. Simon is the son of Dusty and Melanie Bargo.
Hale is a three-year member of the Milford Cheer program. Last year, she helped the Eagles capture the ECC Championship, the sixth in a row for the program, as well as a National Championship for their Performance Routine.
At Cincinnati, Hale will compete for head coach Tabby Fagan. Summer is the daughter of Jeffrey Hale and Erica Hale.
Herrell is a two-time member of the All-ECC first team. As a junior, he was also a first team Cincinnati Enquirer All-Star and a second team all-city selection. On the mound, Herrell was tied for third in the league with 59 strikeouts, posting a 3-2 record and a 1.92 ERA over 40 innings. At the plate, he batted .316 with 10 doubles, one triple and 16 RBI.
At Ohio State, an NCAA Division I program in Columbus, OH, Herrell will play for head coach Bill Mosiello. Chase is the son of Chris and Laurie Herrell.
Ray won a bevy of awards for his play as a junior including All-American, second team All-Ohio and regional midfielder of the year. He was also first team All-ECC for the second straight season, finishing with 31 goals and 32 assists. With one season remaining, Ray is third in school history in goals (69) and first in assists (64). He is also a standout wide receiver for the Milford football team.
At Towson, an NCAA Division I program in Towson, MD, Ray will play for head coach Greg Penczek. Luke is the son of Steven and Beth Ray.
Like his teammate in both football and lacrosse, Smith also was well decorated for his junior campaign. Smith earned All-American accolades, second team All-Ohio and was the regional longstick midfielder of the year. On his way to a second consecutive All-ECC first team slot, Smith led the ECC with 173 groundballs, while causing 57 opponent’s turnovers. Offensively, he scored eight goals and tacked on eight assists. Smith is also a stellar football player as a defensive back and returner.
At Albany, an NCAA Division I program in Albany, NY, Smith will play for head coach Scott Marr. Jacob is the son of Bryan Smith and Toni Smith.
Stinson joined the Eagles soccer squad for the first time this fall on the heels of an outstanding club career. As an Eagle, she grabbed second team All-ECC honors. A stalwart defender, Stinson was part of a D that yielded just 16 goals in 21 matches. Offensively, she scored one goal and had five assists.
At Cleveland State, an NCAA Division I program in Cleveland, OH, Stinson will play for head coach Dallas Boyer. Carly is the daughter of Joe and Tina Stinson.
Further signee information will be shared throughout the 2022-23 academic year as it is finalized.
